First Day of Fall!

First Day of Fall!

Today is the first day of fall!!! The beautiful weather, the changing leaves, the hot drinks, warm clothes, pumpkins, Halloween, and Thanksgiving…. the good stuff! I love Autumn – its my favorite season! Now that it is finally starting to get here, and it also means that I had to come up with a spread for the Faculty Life committee at the school I work in. So I went a bit overboard (like normal) and made several things.

First, I’d been looking for an excuse to play with fondant, so I made an autumn leaf cake. It came out pretty well, especially considering how much I tried to mangle it by being impatient and trying to take the cakes out before they were cool. The leaves looked pretty awesome, even if I do say so myself.

I also made a french apple tart, which I saw on America’s Test Kitchen, and it smelled pretty good (though I don’t like apples, so I didn’t eat any).

Some of you who follow me on twitter know that I bake when I’m stressed. The day job right now is more than a little stressful, so I’ve been baking. A lot. I think its because when I’m baking, I get immediate gratification, everything does exactly what I tell it to, and I see the results immediately. Usually, I don’t even have more than a bite of what I bake. I don’t want it, I just want to make it. (My husband claims this is the reason he has been going back to the gym) So I’m showing you pictures of my pretty baking, because its pretty, and its my blog, I can bake if I want to? lol. Hopefully my baking adventures don’t bother you, because they’re likely to come up on the blog from time to time.

There are some other great things in the works as well – my awesome #pitchwars mentor, Sarah Cannon, is looking over my current edits as we speak. (Something I’m trying not to think on too hard.) and we’ll see what she says. Honestly, I’m terrified I haven’t done enough. She’s been gentle so far, sending me things in bits. I like that, but now I’m convinced I haven’t done enough and she’ll somehow realize the horrible mistake she’s made in choosing me. But I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

I’m also working hard to make the Hampton Roads Teen Book Festival happen again this year, only bigger and better! Time will tell – but here’s hoping!

What part of fall is your favorite? I’d love to know!
