Interview with Angela Caldwell!

The Serious Questions

What made you want to become an author?
I found this passion inside of me to write and I never want to lose it again. That’s why I became an author.

Tell us about your current work in progress.
I’m currently working on THE LAST ORDER 2 (No title) and an urban YA fantasy. I’m also querying a contemporary YA.

What do you do to cure writer’s block?
Write! For me, I’m usually stuck because I don’t know my story well enough or I’m not connected to the characters. I’ll plan in my head and work through ideas for days until the story breaks again. I don’t know if there is a cure for writer’s block. I think you just have to write or process your story until you get your groove back.

Are you a plotter or a pantster?
Panster/Plotter- I don’t plot much on paper because my brain holds so much it’s overwhelming

Do you have any writing rituals?
Nope, I just hope I can get time in-between the madness and fun of my life.

What is your favorite book? What about favorite book to movie adaptation?
I hate picking favorite books because I love so many. I love the Hunger Games movie adaptations.

You have done digital filmmaking –  how is writing for that different than writing a novel? How has it influenced the way you write your novels (or has it?)
Filmmaking has influncencted me by allowing to get into a grow for writing visually. Understanding the concept “show don’t tell” came easy for me. When I write I see the characters actions in my head like film. Many readers have enjoyed The Last Order and have mentioned how they would love to see it as a film. Others have commented on how it reads like a movie.

Tell us about your journey to publication. What was it like?
I’m an indie author. I worked hard investing what I could into THE LAST ORDER and other invested as well. I was blessed to have a small team helping me so I wasn’t totally alone.  The process is hard and rewarding. I can’t wait to publish more novels.

What is the best piece of writing advice you NEVER followed?
Write daily. There’s no way I can do this, but it works for some.

Tell us about THE LAST ORDER!
THE LAST ORDER is a secret order of women knights trying to save what’s left of the kingdom before leader of The Order of the Talon steals the throne. I love this group of unlikely friends. Lana turns a group of gypsy-thieves into knights and they inspire the whole kingdom. It’s full of action, adventure, mystery, and a touch of romance.

Chocolate or vanilla?
Chocolate–unless it’s ice cream then vanilla

Dinos or dragons?

Is time travel a physic power? Okay. How about being able to change people’s minds like in Star Wars.
“These are not the droids you’re looking for.”

How could I pick a favorite Disney character?  Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck it Ralph-today anyway.
