Wednesday Muse #11

Wednesday Muse #11

Each Wednesday I post a snippet written in response to a photo. If you’d like to be included in the Wednesday Muse series, please let me know! I’d be happy to add you to the list at the end.

Stairs

(C) Vanessa Edwards – Taken at Ft. Pulaski in Georgia

This came to me, but only partially because of the picture. They sort of came from the present WIP and this picture. Its short, but I kind of enjoy that about this section. And I’d love to know what you think!

It’s the eyes, I think. They’re sharp. Bright. Staring, yet always moving. And I know I never want them to pause or hesitate on any one thing. That look will kill. Bury darkness in my flesh. Draw me under. I will become what I do not want. What I fear most. What I hate, because I already know its potential is in me. Curled under my heart in a tiny black cave, filled with my lies and worst moments.

I could become the monster they fear.

I could come to love it.

  1. So I’m lying in bed as I read this snippet (it’s nearly 2am in the morning and I know I should be asleep already, but I’m too tired to feel sleepy yet) and when I got to that last line…CHILLS. I absolutely love it and I also like that line about the black cave under her heart. Very vivid description.

I’ve enjoyed your other Wednesday snippets too – great work!
