NaNoWriMo Begins! (and I’m already behind!)
But, of course, we took a mini vacation over the weekend, so I’m starting a bit late. Hey, its the thought that counts, right? And I needed the vacation.
Want to know what I did? Well, I’m going to tell you. And show you.
First, we went to West Virginia to visit my Aunt and Uncle and cousin and can sauerkraut we’d made back in September. 10 gallons of the stuff. Now, we were splitting it (thank God) with my brother and his fiancee, so it was going to be half. We are also aware that a quart is too much. So we ended up with 7 quarts and 54 pints of it to split. That’s a lot of kraut.

On the way, we ran into snow. SNOW! On November 1! Ridiculous.
But I digress….
We saw some amazing scenery. We went to Monticello and had the place to ourselves for a good half hour (well, us and the grounds keepers) because we were there so early. It was great. Though the last time I was there I was in the fourth grade. It seemed a lot bigger then.
We ate amazing fried chicken at Michie Tavern, then headed up to Carter Mountain Orchard. We figured we’d just buy a couple apples and some cider. Maybe even some apple wine. Instead, we discovered you could still pick late season apples. So we got an apple cider slushie (AMAZING) and then picked 25 pounds of apples.
I’ll be making applesauce this weekend. And I don’t even like apples.
Then we headed home. And the week began on Wednesday. So I’m behind on my writing, but a little more recharged than I was. And that’s a good thing, right?
Do you have any recommendations for day trips? Been on any that were amazing? I want to go back out to that area for a wine tour sometime too.
